Yes - Tales From Topographic Oceans 

  When I was a young kiddy boo boo i fell under the spell of the music of YES.......the YES album.......Going For The One, Close To The Edge, Relayer, Drama.........and Tales From Topographic Oceans..........and my life was complete!!!!

  I used to listen to this album going to work in my Dodge Dart with my portable cassette machine strapped in the back cranking out these tunes!!!!

  Four epic long tracks with that creative progressive classic rock touch all the way through.....simply breathtaking music!

  Rick Wakeman, Chris White, Steve Howe, Chris Squire and the angelic voice of Jon Anderson!   By 1973 the progressive movement was well underway and this double album ushered in the two vinyl magnum opus thing !

Buddy Miles - We Got To Live Together (1970)

Buddy Miles - We Got To Live Together 

  Released the same year as the classic vintage album "Them Changes" , " We Got To Live Together" was kind of a outshadowed beast.  However, behind this shroud is another fantastic album with some superb instrumentation and funk rock songs.  

This album features the standout drums and vocals by Buddy with a huge cast of top musicians and a big brass arsenal in support.    You can not listen to this album without stomping your toes and groovin to these guys.   

   A couple of moments to highlite ........."Easy Greasy" a five minute funked out psychfest with that early Chicago brass pumps and honks and the 12 minute title track "We Got To Live Together" with it's addictive hook and soul-funk grooves!

  My only complaint about this album is that it is super short clocking in around 30 mins.

During the recording of this album Buddy learned of the death of his bandmate Jimi Hendrix.  

Rare Earth - Ecology (1970)

Rare Earth - Ecology

"Ecology" was the third album released by Detroit based funk soul psych band Rare Earth.   Ecology is a fantastic album with some great tracks somewhere in the soul-psych genre.  This album features a couple of outstanding tracks ........."Nice Place To Visit" with its catchy rock grooves and guitar unleashings and the hard-hitting, rocking rendition of the Temptations' "I Know I'm Losing You," .  This song is stretched out to 11 mins and is simply an amazing version with its acid-drenched oil lamp vibes!    

   And like so many albums and artists these guys play an ode to those Beatles with a cool version of 
"Eleanor Rigby".     

  The whole album is just excellent and comes with my highest endorsement as an absolutely essential album!

Séguin - Festin D'Amour (1976)

Séguin - Festin D'Amour

 In their lifetime of kin collaborations twins Marie and Richard Séguin recorded four excellent albums between 1973 and 1976......,Séguin,  En Attendant ,Recolte and Festin D'amour.   Their final album "Festin D'Amour" is a soft harmonic cosmic folk voyage with some fantastic instrumentation amd vocals.   

 Side two of this album is simply killer with two of my favourite 70's French Canadian songs "Le Silence" and "L'homme du nord". 

  Richard Séguin contributes a ton of the cool instrumentation including banjo, guitar, hamonica, mandolin while Bruce Murchuson adds violin with Yves Clouthier's mandolin and Guy Richer compliments with trombones, percussion, piano and electronics.   Behind all this prog folk layers is the delicate vocals of Marie Séguin who also adds guitar, flute and tambourine.  

Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild (1968)

Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild ( SACD)

    I first owned this album back when I was a kiddy boo boo listening to the Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and The Bee Gees and Osmonds.  I always loved this album with its psychedelic leanings and anthem-like power rock vibes.  Of course "Born To Be Wild" is one of the most classic of all vintage rock songs which defines this album.   I will say to all rock fans that you have never this song until you spin the SACD.  Imagine clearly defined bass and drum bits with great vocal separation and a wide soundscape and you have this SACD.

Steppenwolf play loud and powerful rock with a psychedelic lemon twist throughout. The album features the strong songwriting of band leader John Kay.  Steppenwolf got a breakthru with its inclusion in the Dennis Hopper culst classic fild "easy Rider" .  The album also includes a Don Covay sould cover inspired version of "Sookie Sookie" which was and still is considered a Soul Classic !  

Men Without Hats - Pop Goes The World (1987)

Men Without Hats - Pop Goes The World 

     "Pop Goes The World" was the third album released by Quebec's 80's synth pop band which IMHO was the best album they ever released.    Ivan, Jenny, Johnny and J Bonhomme play their vintage synth pop sounds with guest appearance from Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson.    


   Believe it or not this was a concept album and although hits all the right pop buttons it also hits some pretty cool music buttons !!!

   Songs like "Moonbeam", "Pop Goes The World", and "Walk On Water" are etched in my mind forever.     This is a great pop album and one that I still play some 20+ years later and enjoy from side A to the end of Side B.

  The Immortal Al Jolson is one of those albums that will make you feel good and wholesome everytime!   Al tells stories with charm and vitality with an endearing presence and is very much of the time circa late 50's
