The Monkees - Headquaters (1967)
RIP Davy Jones............................................
So on the bad news this week of the loss of Davy Jones I had pulled out some of my Monkees albums and the first one I am spinning in ode is their 3rd album Headquarters. At the time all the discussion was centered around how the Monkees didn't write any of their own music, but on Headquarters they started changing this perception. Headquarters is a magical album and represents a very much maturing band. The song "Shades Of Gray" is one of the classic Monkees tunes and reveals how they started to work outside of the simple catchy pop melodies.
