Marshall Crenshaw (1982)
Marshall Crenshaw's debut album released in 1982 is a masterpiece of power pop. Released about the same time as the rise of MTV and all those nasty 80's videos, Crenshaw released a pop friendly album that has stood the test of time. Naturally I was excited to see this album released by MOFI and I must say that they have done an excellent job in re-presenting this recording in glorious SACD!
This mofi is an excellent balanced mix with a high degree of instrumental clarity and separation. The drums are a key part of the mix and are nicely contrasted and not in your face. Crenshaw's vocals are in the front but not so far that you feel like it is somewhere else (a complaint i have with the Pretenders Mofi release).
If you are not familiar with this album you should give this a wee spin and if you like what you hear I would recommend you snag this on SACD.
...oh yeah and get ready to dance !

The Box (1984)
The Box (1984) Unidisc Remaster
The Box were a band that we all totally got into during our highschool days....I remember this album trading hands and lockers still to this day. "Must I always remember" was the song i played the most in 1984.....in fact this album never left my stereo and I still love this album to this day.
The Box are a French Canadian progressive pop cross over band that write and play very clever music that really defies boundaries. The Box first 2 albums have passed the test of time with me and I still love these albums as much now as I did when I was 15.

Talk Talk - It's My Life (1984)
The music of Mark Hollis has always had a special spot in my heart....A bit electronic....a bit psychy...a bit rock...and bit pop...and even a bit soul'ful. For many 80's fans this album held the massive hit "It's My Life" which littered the airwaves and 80's compilations albums in the day, but is just so much more......Hollis' expressive lyrics and vocals over which Tim-Friese-Greene layers his symphonic and memorable electronic keyboard work. The songs on this album are all great and the albums runs from start to end as a masterpiece should.

Duran Duran (1981)
Duran Duran you ask ? Come on dude.......... Well it is true.....yes this was one of the 80's albums that I just fell in love with .... I was a bigger fan of this album than Rio to be honest and loved it punk'ish edge. My first exposure to Duran Duran was Rio but I snagged this album in the height craze of Duran Duran. Careless Memories is simply one of the best pop rock songs of the 80's IMHO and I think the whole album is solid. This version is the UK version of the album which does not include "Is There Something I Should Know? which was on the US version in lieu of "To The Shore". In true form EMI did a great release here with this replica vinyl CD remaster which brings back just so many Careless Memories for me ........

Human League - Dare (1981)
UUUUgh..........You're kidding right ? Nope ! I have always been a fan of this 80's rigid and cold electronic album...yes that same album that brought you that massive dance hit "Dont You Want Me" . Fan or not, there is little room to really argue that DARE was one of the most influential electronic pop albums of all time and in many ways The Human League were one of the more innovative bands of the 80's....an era that produced a lot of garbage music but also some get gems....one of which is in review. Outside of "Dont You Want me" is where this album really shines and is actually filled with lots of emotion, electronic warmth and lots of post-punk rock influences. 100% art rock of a different form.
