Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus (1956)

Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus  180g Vinyl

Saxophone Colossus is one of the jazz desert island picks for me .....no question about it.....

The album was recorded one afternoon in Rudy Van Gelder's living room/studio with the assistance of  drummer Max Roach, pianist Tommy Flanagan, and bassist Doug Watkins.   This quartet manage to cover quire a wide spectrum of sound on this album and do so with tons of zest and energy.   There is also quite a lot of tempo and tone changes throughout this album and never really stands too still for too long!

" Moritat" is Rollins' spin on Jack The Knife from which he takes us on quite a journey....and no Bobby Darin!

The Prestige 180g vinyl sounds excellent and offers a lovely warm vibe throughout the album.  This album is a treasure of the jazz genre and should be in every music lovers collection.
