Southside Johnny & The Ashbury Jukes - Reach Up & Touch The Sky (1981)

Southside Johnny & The Ashbury Jukes - Reach Up & Touch The Sky

Now this is what rock and roll was meant to be like!   The Jersey based Jukes were a bit Springsteen, a bit Chicago and a bit J Giles band all in one !    Their music is lively and full of pure energy.  Musically these guys were excellent  led by the gruff vocals of Southside Johnny, small brass section , bass, guitars and keyboards.

This double vinyl set captures the guys on tour circa   1979/1980 and features most of their well known tracks from their Epic and Mercury albums.   Side four features an ode to Sam Cooke as they perform a medley of his classic hits and Chuck Berry's "Back In The U.S.A".  Their live version of "Why Is Love Such A Sacrifice" is one of clear standout tracks and sounds waaaaaay better live than studio.

This is an excellent live album
