The Flying Machine (1970)

The Flying Machine

..Smile a little smile for me............

The Flying Machine were a short lived British Sunshine pop project by songwriters Tony MacAuley and Geoff Stephens.  They were originally known as Pinkerton's Assorted Colours.

The Flying machine were best known for their 1969 hit "SMILE A LITTLE SMILE FOR ME".  The single charted on the Billboard Hot 100 on October 4, 1969 on Congress Records.  The single became a huge hit in the US and in December of 1969 and has sold over 1 million copies being awarded a “Gold Record”.

They recorded a follow up record, but it fell into obscurity and the band eventually split up.  The original members were Tony Newman, Steve Jones, Sam Kempe and Stuart Colman.  Colman went on to a successful career as a session musician…record producer and a disc jockey on BBC Radio.

Musically The Flying Machine is a wonderful psych pop album full of groovy songs and paisley colored hues.

You have to Smile a little Smile while listening to this album !
