Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles Live (1972)

Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles -  Live

Santana and Miles together live at a 1972 concert in Honolulu.  Side one features famous songs like "Evil Ways (6:26)" and "Them Changes (5:50)" and is really a mix of Santana meets Jimi Hendrix in terms of sound and feel for my ears.

The real gem is the side two's epic track "Free Form Funkafide Filth" which over 25 mins gives the full band a chance to explore some pretty trippy and groovy places.

The band line up included not only Santana and Miles but Luis Gasca (trumpet), Pete Escovedo (timbales), Greg Errico (drums), Neal Schon (guitar), Ron Johnson (bass), Victor Pantoja (organ), Kadley Caliman (sax, flute),  James Mingo Lewis (congas) and Michael Carabello (congas).

My only complaint is the lack lustre sound quality and had this been really well recorded it might have become the GREATEST  live album ever .  I have the UK pressing on vinyl and even this import offers a dull audio experience.  However behind the smoky sound is an album alive and full of some of the finest guitar and drums you will ever hear !

  Essential album
